What We Believe

Our Story | Our Leadership | What We Believe | Our Vision | Church Planting

Sanctuary is a Christian fellowship that is committed to a holistic and biblical way of life that is summed up in three shared values—truth, community, & service.

Truth
We affirm the central truths of historic orthodox Christian faith. We believe that God is true and has made his truth known in the Scriptures. Jesus is this very truth, wisdom, and revelation of God in the flesh. We seek to know, live, and proclaim this truth as the gospel of God.

The ‘gospel’ is the good news that, through Jesus, the power of God’s kingdom has entered history to renew the whole world. When we believe and rely on Jesus’ work and record (rather than ours) for our relationship to God and others, that kingdom power comes upon us and begins to work through us.

Community
We value the image of God in all people, everywhere. We seek to provide a visible manifestation of what redeemed relationships look like. It is a powerful picture to see God’s children as they live transformed lives together—carrying each other’s burdens, sharing our possessions, praying for each other, suffering and celebrating together. It’s in these honest, loving relationships that God transforms us and truth becomes a reality. The way of Jesus cannot be lived alone.

The gospel is what creates a new community which not only nurtures individuals but serves as a sign of God’s coming kingdom. Here we see classes of people loving one another who could not have gotten along without the healing power of the gospel. Here we see our various blessings used in selfless and life-giving ways, held with hands of humility.

Service
We seek to embody the gospel in practical and tangible ways which honor God and help others. Our service simply demonstrates our love for both. Jesus calls his church to be a compelling force for good in the world, and we believe that the church is at its best when it serves, sacrifices, and loves—caring about the things God cares about. We were created to live for something larger than ourselves.

Though we joyfully invite every person to faith in Jesus, we are committed to sacrificially serving our neighbors whether they believe as we do or not. We do this by using our gifts and resources for the needs of others, especially the poor. And more than merely meeting individual needs, we work for justice for the powerless.
